Benzoic Acid Family

Description: The compound Benzoate is a light yellow or colorless liquid that is used as a solvent for synthetic musks and vanillin. It is a common aromatic compound in anaerobic organisms metabolism. Benzoate's salts are also used in food preservation for anti-fungal purposes. Benzoate is also an important precursor for the synthesis of several organic substances. To produce it commercially, partial oxidation of toluene with oxygen must occur.
