Aminoacyl-tRNA Biosynthesis

Description: Aminoacyl-tRNA (charged tRNA) is a transfer RNA that is connected to a specific amino acid that will be inserted into a polypeptide chain with a certain codon and anti-codon match. The synthesis of aminoacyl-tRNA is done in two major steps starting with an amino acid and the enzyme, aminoacyl-tRNA synthetase, is used. In the first step, the amino acid is combined with ATP to form aminoacyl-AMP. The second step invovles the aminoacyl-AMP group reacting with tRNA, and the AMP group leaves, and the tRNA is attached to the amino group. The overall reaction involves the hydrolysis of ATP, so it is a favorable reaction because it is exergonic.
