Acridone Alkaloid Biosynthesis

Description: Acridone alkaloids are anthranillic alkaloids that are typically found in Rutaceae, Piperaceae and Simarunaceae. 1,3-dihydroxyacridone, which is the core of these alkaloids, is formed by the condensation of N-methylanthraniloyl-CoA with 3 units of malonyl-CoA. It is then modified by prenylation and cyclization reactions which forms Acridones. Compounds within this class have been tested for anti-tumor and antimicrobial activities.
